[music |Safe and Sound- Taylor Swift (obviously)]

So, I finally got my first REU application in... three minutes before the deadline. Anyone sane would be asleep right now. Instead, I'm going to post about World of Warcraft.

So, the more I read about Jaina Proudmoore, the more fascinated I am.

Duty first. Grief second. Self-pity never.

Mrr. I just had a great idea for a human priest who'd been Sagittula's sister back when she was still alive and a paladin, and Battle.net said the name Aurelia was free on Proudmoore, so I went to try and make the character before someone took it. It's apparently unavailable anyway. Mrr. I forgot they don't list characters below level 10. Guess I'll figure out another name later.

Okay, she's Aurelinna now. That's better anyway- it fits with the diminutive pattern and it's not already the name of someone I know. (Yes, rockychristine, I now have more Alliance characters than Horde. I've fallen to the... erm... light side.)

Anyway, Jaina Proudmoore. Right.

I think what I admire most about her is that she doesn't let her emotions interfere with her responsibility to her people, even though she obviously has them. Er, emotions, not responsibility. Or people. Okay, I should stop rambling, because it was 12:30 when I started this post but it'll be 2 am before I finish it at this rate, and I really do need to sleep.

One thing, though:

This video.

I know people make fun of Taylor Swift a lot, but she's my new "mental playby" for Jaina Proudmoore. Look at 3:04 and at this picture. They're the same person. Also, honorh refers to this song as a "death lullaby", and I think she's right on the money. Because if you just look at the lyrics, it seems reassuring, but then when you listen to the song itself, it's obvious: she's lying. Whoever she's singing to is going to die before sunrise and there's nothing she can do about it but try to make them a little more comfortable.

I thought at first this was related to the "responsibilities of command", and especially the lines "Don't you dare look out your window darling; / Everything's on fire / The war outside our door keeps raging on" seemed to me completely fitting for her trying desperately to bring peace. On the other hand, the song itself is kind of quiet and wimpy, and now that Aurelinna's in my head this is definitely her theme song instead.

Also, cutlacesoflife? If you ever do decide to cosplay Sylvanas, even if it's a few years from now? Let me know, preferably like a month in advance. Because I will make a Jaina Proudmoore costume and go with you. And we can make out in public I mean, what? *innocent face*

I kind of love Jaina Proudmoore. She's doing all she can in a really bad situation- being Arthas' ex as well as good friends with the non-douchebag Warchief isn't a great political spot. She's really awesome. And if you want to help with WoW-related music, I have a fanmix I've been working on and I really could use help from more people who listen to more music. (And Taylor Swift is really hot. She's a good singer too, despite my not generally liking country.) My only real problem with Jaina is that she isn't doing much in WoW. I think this will change in the next expansion- sounds like the developers are going closer to all-out Alliance/Horde war, which will actually give Jaina something to do. If only to quell the douchebag contest between Varian Wrynn and Garrosh Hellscream.

The Alliance has their uses. Sooner or later, I'll level an Alliance character to 85- on Proudmoore, the Alliance presence is a lot stronger, and they are a lot more competitive raiding-wise. Even if the Taint equivalent on ally (Pride of Stonewall and associates) aren't anywhere near as good. I've been mostly staying on Horde because I have a thing for blood elves and Sylvanas. But the human racial is a really good one- apparently you can use it to ignore fear and movement-impairing effects, and that's one of the best things ever. Both sides have fascinating lore and cool things they can do, and I really don't think it matters much even though the Horde has very firmly stolen my allegiance.

And I hereby demand to see the two of you cosplaying as Sylvanas and Jaina. Seriously, so much shiny. And one of my crackships. Someday when I have money and time and more hair, I'm planning to cosplay Alexstrasza's human form. Excuse to show off combined with red contacts and being a badass dragon? Yes please.

Yes, definitely. And she was the de facto human leader while Varian was depressed and/or kidnapped, and doesn't seem to be getting a lot of credit for it, as far as I can tell. I've heard various rumors about plot to do with Theramore- hopefully she can be awesome about that. And yeah, from what I've seen it looks like she and Thrall are counterparts, as are Varian and Garrosh, which is a really interesting dynamic.

I'm not sure how much help I'd be with music- I can point you to lots of epic-sounding showtunes, but there's just SO MUCH LORE out there I haven't seen that I can't really say that any fit more than any other. Unless you're interested in the theme songs I've picked for my characters, but I doubt they'll make a lot of sense without the backstories. :P

I agree, blood elves and Sylvanas are made of win. At this point, I basically just want to experience all the plot I can while I'm still on Starter Edition (which is why I'm so disappointed that the gnomes don't have their own starting area like everyone else, but that's a different post), so I may just end up making one character of every available race, except maybe dwarves (see above).

Aww, see, now that I'm awake I realize it's really not fair of me to encourage this, because Jaina's a clothie. (Do you use those terms for NPCs? And what's the counterpart term for "someone who can wear leather/mail/plate"?) Aside from the staff and possibly the fancy shoulder-thing, her costume would be ridiculously easy to make.

I'm not sure what the counterpart for clothie is for other things. Plate-wearer is commonly used to refer to warriors, paladins, and DK's, and I've heard plate DPS used also if you're one of those and not tanking.

Epic showtunes are encouraged. I could use some help, definitely!

Ohh, Varian and Garrosh. My pet fantheory is that they're locked in a douchebag contest which will only end if one of them is offed, and somehow I don't see Garrosh lasting much longer. He's a good military leader, but can't really do the political side of being in charge of the Horde. And they're going to need someone who can. I personally nominate Vol'jin, the troll leader, or if we really want Alliance/Horde war and horrible, Sylvanas. She could do it, but she's too crazy to really sustain it. I fully expect to see her as an end boss at some time.

I think Theramore getting nuked by the Horde will be a great way to give Jaina some plot, which she's sadly lacking in. She'd be a better leader for the humans than Varian, just due to being more level-headed and less likely to assume that all orcs are evil. We really can't have that.

Gnomes are silly. Cute, but silly. Dwarves are awesome! I love Ironforge a lot- I think it's my favorite Alliance capital, and not just because it's one of the easiest to get to for city raiding. Definitely try all that you can- it's the best way to learn what you like to do. I still have to level my priest so I have an 85 healer, and sounds like today my death knight will hit 85. And then off to raiding and all the fun stuff!

Okay, massive linkspam of showtunes will be arriving at some point- possibly Sunday, because I have two REU applications and a Letter to Rozer to get through before Saturday. I may put my character theme songs in the backstory post which I'll eventually do, I swear.

Mm, I don't know nearly enough about Vol'jin. I should fix that at some point. (Also, I found a list of "better warchiefs than Garrosh", which was hysterical. My favorites were Sickly Gazelle and High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque.) Do you see Sylvanas as having gotten more or less crazy since Arthas's death/Edge of Night, or stayed the same? I haven't seen enough to tell.

I agree on Jaina being a better leader for the humans, but I'm not sure about during a full-on war, unless she's like "YOU DO NOT TOUCH THERAMORE. STOP THAT NOW." Ooh, I bet she'd be the cold and terrifying type of angry, too. :D

My gnome is the hardest to get into the head of- I haven't even figured out whether she's proper!Cassie or evil!Cassie. Reading the racial backstories helped with Responsible and Troublesomme, but Cass is still kind of a blank. (Also, she has the proportions of a five-year-old, which shouldn't bother me but kind of does.) At the moment I'm just focusing on mining and engineering so I can make her some goggles.
